The Weninger winery is unique in that it owns vineyards on both sides of the border (Austria - Hungary) in Horitschon, Neckenmarkt, Ritzing, Raiding and Balf. This allows Franz to introduce Burgenland as an undivided wine region (after World War One, Burgenland became part of Austria, while Sopron remained in Hungary). The vineyard overlooks Lake Neusiedler and enjoys the lake's special climatic conditions. The vineyard contains pure slate and is an ideal base for wines with storage potential, this Blaufränkisch shows earthy notes, slight notion of truffle and fine red berries and lots of dried herbs. On the palate lots of finesse, complexity but also power from very juicy melded tannins, it is mainly the spiciness that prevails in the wine.
